  1. Initiation: A user signs a transaction with their private key, creating a digital signature․ This proves ownership of the assets being moved․
  2. Broadcasting: The transaction is sent to the network, where it enters a holding area known as the mempool․
  3. Validation: Nodes (computers on the network) inspect the transaction․ They verify the digital signature and ensure the sender has sufficient funds․
  4. Grouping: Validated transactions are bundled into a new block․
  5. Consensus: The network uses a consensus algorithm, such as Proof of Work (PoW) or Proof of Stake (PoS), to agree that the block is valid․
  6. Finalization: Once the block is added to the chain, the transaction is considered permanent and immutable․

The most critical aspect of verification is how nodes reach consensus․ In Proof of Work, miners compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles․ The first to solve it gets the right to add the block, and others verify the work․ This energy-intensive process makes it prohibitively expensive to attack the network․

Verification is not without its hurdles․ During times of high demand, the mempool can become congested․ When thousands of users attempt to transact simultaneously, the network may slow down, leading to increased fees and longer wait times․ Developers are currently exploring Layer 2 solutions and sharding to improve throughput without sacrificing the core tenets of security and decentralization․
